Last night's Modern Family, which featured guest stars Aisha Tyler and Will Sasso, finished a solid third place in viewers, behind American Idol on Fox and Criminal Minds on CBS, but rose to a strong first place finish in the key adults 18-49 demographic.
"Spring-A-Ding-Fling" had an audience of 9.22 million people, adding 700,000 people from last week's broadcast. The show was third in viewers, behind Criminal Minds' 11.42m and Idol's 10.53m audiences. Modern Family had a dominant 3.4/10 rating in the 18-49 demo, up from the previous episode's 3.1/9, to rank ahead of Idol's 2.7/8 and Minds' 2.6/7.

Cameron is in charge of the school's big spring dance, but when a popular teacher returns from sabbatical, a bit of not-so-friendly competition blooms. And with Claire on chaperone duty at the dance, Phil gets Haley to accompany him to his annual realtor's banquet and is looking forward to impressing his little girl. Elsewhere, Mitch starts a new job and can't seem to get a good read on the new boss or the work environment. Jay and Gloria babysit Lily and an accident with Gloria's purse ignites a case of whodunit and it's Lily's word against baby Joe's.
