Modern Family received fourteen nominations for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards, it was announced earlier today at a cermony in Hollywood.
Modern Family received its third consecutive nomination for the Outstanding Comedy Series award. The show has won the award for the past two years. This year's contenders are Curb Your Enthusiasm, Girls, 30 Rock, Veep and The Big Bang Theory.
All six of Modern Family's adult cast members received Emmy nominations today, as they also did last year. Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen are nominated in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category. They face competition from Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), Merrit Wever (Nurse Jackie), Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live) and the late Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives). Ed O'Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are nominated in the Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, a category dominated by Modern Family men. There are just two non-Modern Family contenders for that award: Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live) and Max Greenfield (New Girl).
Greg Kinnear received an Emmy nomination for his guest appearance as Tad on Modern Family. The other actors nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category are Michael J. Fox (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Bobby Cannavale (Nurse Jackie), Jimmy Fallon (Saturday Night Live), Will Arnett and Jon Hamm (both 30 Rock).
The show received a number of other Emmy nominations: two nominations in the Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series category, a nomination for Outstanding Single-camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series, another for Outstanding Casting For A Comedy Series, one for Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) And Animation, and also one for Outstanding Single-camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series.
The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place September 23 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the event, which will be broadcast on ABC.
