Emmy Nominations 2013

Modern Family racked up twelve nominations for the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. The Emmy nominations were announced earlier today in Hollywood.

Modern Family was nominated for the Outstanding Comedy Series award for the fourth year running. So far the show has won the award every year it's been nominated, taking the award home three times in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The other contenders for the award this year are 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Girls and Veep.

Modern Family dominates the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category again, with three of its leading men nominated. Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O'Neill and Ty Burrell are nominated alongside Girls' Adam Driver, Saturday Night Live's Bill Hader and Vep's Tony Hale. A Modern Family star has won this award each of the last three years: Eric Stonestreet in 2010, Ty Burrell in 2011 and Eric Stonestreet again in 2012. This marks Ed O'Neills third nomination, and Ty Burrell and Jesse Tyler Ferguson's fourth time.

For Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, both Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara are nominated for the award. This is the fourth consecutive nomination for both women. Julie Bowen has won the award twice in 2011 and 2012. The other contenders for the award this year are Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), Jane Lynch (Glee), Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie), Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) and Anna Chlumsky (Veep).

Nathan Lane was nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role as Pepper Saltzman. Lane has been nominated for this award twice in the past, in 1998 for a guest spot on Mad About You and back in 1995 for an appearance on Frasier. This wasn't Lane's only nomination today; he was nominated for the corresponding dramatic award for his appearance on The Good Wife.

Modern Family's crew received another five nominations. The show was nominated for the following awards: Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Single-camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy Series.

The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 22, 2013 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. CBS will be broadcasting the ceremony, which will be hosted by How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris.
